The Challenge 💥 

The General Medical Council is a public body responsible for maintaining the official register of medical practitioners across the United Kingdom, funded primarily through annual fees and registration charges paid by clinicians. 

As part of its responsibility to the profession and to patient safety, the GMC conducts Fitness to Practise hearings for any medical professional who has been referred, or has referred themselves, where there are serious concerns about their fitness to practise, whether behavioural, clinical, or performance-related. 

These hearings demand court-compliant transcripts produced to an exacting standard. As a public body, the GMC was required to run a competitive tender, seeking a partner capable of meeting rigorous accuracy, compliance and operational requirements, while transitioning away from an incumbent supplier that had held the contract for 25 years. 

The Solution 💡 

Accuro bid for the work through the GMC’s public procurement process and, following assessment as the most economically and operationally advantageous bid, was awarded a three-year contract commencing March 2026.

Charlotte McBride’s attention to detail, willingness to attend review meetings in person, and readiness to adapt processes to increase adoption and reduce friction were all recognised as central to a smooth handover from the long-standing previous incumbent.
