The Challenge
Switch On, Read On required a bespoke captioning solution capable of supporting their patented subtitling methodology, developed and refined over many years.
Off-the-shelf captioning tools could not accommodate the nuanced requirements of their approach – including precise caption length, layout, timing, and additional on-screen visual cues essential to their pedagogy. Manual workarounds were time-consuming, inconsistent, and not scalable for broadcast-ready content.
They needed a platform that could:
- Accurately implement their unique subtitling style
- Maintain consistency at scale
- Support high-volume production for international broadcast
The Solution
Building on Accuro’s bespoke captioning technology, CaptionMe by Accuro was developed and extended to fully support Switch On, Read On’s Caterpillar Captions methodology.
The platform was customised to reflect every pedagogical nuance, including:
- Precise control over caption line length and formatting
- Embedded styling rules unique to Caterpillar Captions
- Additional on-screen features such as an L-Bar, appearing at the beginning and end of each piece of content
- A scalable workflow capable of handling large content volumes without compromising quality
All caption styling was handled directly within the platform, removing the need for time-intensive post-production edits.
