What are editing / proofreading services?
Proofreading services, and in particular, Accuro’s home editor jobs are ideal for those of you who are experienced transcribers or secretaries.
Similar to transcription, Accuro offer a proofread speech recognition service and as such require proofreading and editing professionals.
Firstly, our Microsoft Azure speech recognition system transcribes an audio file automatically to give a solid, rough draft of a document. This is then sent to our home editors / proofreaders, alongside the recording (in a format such as mp3, wav, ds2, etc.) and then proofread / edited to ensure that what is typed matches exactly what is dictated.
The recordings can be generated and then automatically transcribed and edited for customers working within a range of industries, but predominantly medical professionals, lawyers and other professional industries. Customers will all have different requirements but generally the work will involve editing documents in to a block text format, or on to the customer’s letterhead (if the latter is required, all training and templates will provided with as much support as required).
Why be a home editor or proofread from home for a document editing company?
Working from home as a home editor / proofreader can be a daunting prospect. Most experienced home editors / proofreaders will be ex-secretaries/transcribers and as such, experts in the field but may have no knowledge of how to become self-employed, tax issues and how to market their practice to build a customer base. Professional editor / proofreading service companies such as Accuro take away all these problems by providing an instant customer base and helping with invoicing and advice on what is required by HMRC.
Is Accuro hiring proofreaders / home editors?
Yes! Accuro is always looking for talented people to join our UK based panel of home editors / proofreaders. Following a period of rapid growth Accuro’s customer base has expanded into new markets and as such we are on the lookout for talented typists.
Do I have the experience needed to become a home-editor / professional proofreader?
If you have recent experience as an audio typist, transcriber, home editor or proofreader then get in touch. We value knowledge of technical terminology as our medical dictation in particular covers dozens of specific disciplines – you don’t want to mix up your neurology with your urology!
Accuro’s home editors / proofreaders have gained experience through years of working in their specific sector and we work with professionals who have enough evidenced experience or skills to ensure that they are up-to-date with current terminology and practices. For instance, you may have completed a medical transcription course with AMSPAR, BSMSA, Udemy, etc. or have worked in an online medical transcription job from home before for another UK based transcription service or within other speech-to-text services.

We want all home editors/proofreaders to benefit from working with us, and we work with you to match the most appropriate customers. After all, document editing is what you know and enjoy, making it both fun and financially viable.

You will build up a regular customer base whose work you will receive consistently, but you can also try different accounts as they come on board too. The more customers you edit for, the more work you receive and the more money you earn.
We have a dedicated home editor / proofreader management team whose goal is the improvement and wellbeing of all the home editors on our panel. Whether you have a question about how to request work, how to lay out a certain document or just generally want to have a chat about working with us, somebody will be available to help!
As you begin editing / proofreading, you will also receive regular feedback from our in-house editing management team which will help you understand what a customer wants, and to answer any queries you have regarding terminology and our home editors often end up learning something that helps them going forwards.
Our IT support team are also on hand to help you as much as possible with any software or computer problems you may encounter – after all, if your PC isn’t working, then how are you supposed to work with us?
